10.4.10: Bottles no more

(left to right: stella, daphne, fiona, brant)

I am THRILLED to report that we are finally done with bottles. Daphne weaned herself from bottles back in July mainly because she wanted to be able to walk around the nursery and drink. Why lay still and drink milk when you can wander about the room? Fiona and Stella really had no interest in drinking milk through a sippy cup. Of course they would happily drink water from a sippy cup, no problem - but milk, no way.

Well after weeks of slowly transitioning from water to watery milk to milky water and finally straight milk during the day we finally decided to eliminate the bottles. We knew that the girls in fact COULD drink milk from a sippy cup and were just electing not to. After several nights of bringing up every possible sippy cup type we have (yes, I bought almost every one recommended by friends) in addition to bottles, Fiona seemed to realize the perks of a cup over a bottle as well. From there, no turning back. Fiona was off the bottle. Now for the hold out. We made Stella try the sippy cup for a couple nights and just before bed after refusing to drink anything, we caved and took her in the other room to drink a bottle (no way we were showing Fiona that Stella was getting a bottle). After two nights of that we decided Stella too, was done with bottles. This photo is from the morning after our first night with no bottles. Yayyyyy!

9.26.10: First time in the ocean

(brant/daphne, kari/fiona, grandy/stella)

Today we met up with Grandy and Kelly boy at Venice beach. While we have been to Venice beach before, this time we actually went to play in the ocean (for the first time). We just got our feet wet, but it was great. Growing up my grandparents always took my sister and me to the ocean so it was extra special to have the girls experience this new adventure with their Grandy. We also enjoyed a picnic and played in the sand a bit. The car ride home was VERY quiet, I think we finally wore the girls out.

9.24.10: Pre-preschool

(left to right: me/fiona, daphne, stella)

Today was our first day of what I am calling pre-preschool. Somehow several community/city colleges around here offer a FREE class that allows kids and their parents to play and learn together. I heard about this class from some twin moms and decided to give it a try. Of course, I had to verify with the teacher that my 3:1 ratio would be ok given that all others in the class were 1:1. So while Grandy was here, we attempted this big adventure. It went pretty well and we will try to go as often as possible for the remainder of the term. The girls had a great time playing with all new toys. I had a great time getting several extra hands to watch over my little ones who insist upon going in different directions. First day of school, check!

9.21.10: Sitting still

(left to right: fiona, kelly, stella, daphne)

Kelly (very graciously) agreed to attempt the children's museum with us during her short visit to LA. We had a wonderful couple of days together. The girls took a serious liking to Kelly and I think they won her over with their kisses. Of course, when we attempted the group photo - this is what happened. I thought this picture appropriately expressed how I feel sometimes when trying to do something as simple as getting a group picture. Special thanks to Kelly for spending so much time with us during her very busy mini-vacation.

9.19.10: Impromptu workout

(left to right: stella, fiona, daphne)

When you have triplets, people assume you will have to bring a stroller everywhere...that is SO not the case. Brant and I have finally figured out how to carry our crew and get a workout at the same time.

9.17.10: Indestructible

Fiona is holding the most amazing baby book ever. This book is 100% indestructible and after two weeks surviving triplets, I will agree that it is titled appropriately. If you have kids who like to flip pages of books (even when someone is standing on said book), eat the book pages, or just practice ripping paper then these books are for you. Nana got the girls this book and it has been well tested and is officially triplet approved.

Ever since we got back from Indianapolis, the girls have been obsessed with dogs. Any animal with four legs is a dog. Needless to say, the books with pictures of dogs have become more popular. I thought this picture of Stella was hilarious because if you look closely, you can actually see her icicle of drool (yes, we are nearing fountain level here). Of course, if I had 8ish new teeth coming in at the same time, I would be a fountain as well.

9.14.10: Spilt milk

(left to right: fiona, daphne, stella)

Don't cry over spilt milk....just splash in it. Get it on your pjs, your sister's pjs, the floor, the wall, the mirror, your hair, your sister's hair and then be super cute and suggest that someone should clean it up.

9.11.10: Fifteen months old

(left to right: fiona, daphne, stella)

After a full day of traveling back home (it is best that we not discuss the flights), we decided to take the monthly photo one day late.

The girls have had a wonderful month. They were able to see a majority of their relatives, adventure to a new state and attend their first wedding. They have all said at least one understandable word (besides dada and mama). They love giving hugs and have begun blowing kisses and even giving real kisses (although very wet ones). They have started following commands (go get the ball, where is your head, etc) and are really beginning to show their personalities and preferences.

9.10.10: Great Nana

(left to right: fiona, stella, daphne)

We spent some more time with the family the day after the wedding. The girls decided to squish Great Nana while posing for this picture. I am amazed that she was still able to smile.

During the remainder of our visit we adventured to the children's museum, zoo, mall, played in nana's pool and playhouse, and went for several walks around the neighborhood - I would call the trip a huge success. We left having accomplished everything on our to-do list including spending a ton of time with family.

9.5.10: First wedding

Saturday, we were lucky enough to participate in a wonderful rehearsal dinner where the girls made sure to greet each attendee while wandering throughout the room. Good thing we have waving down :)

(left to right: fiona, stella, daphne)

Today was the big day, the girls got a new aunt while Brant and I got a new sister-in-law. We couldn't be happier. The wedding was beautiful and everything went really well. The girls were exhausted after finding their way to the dance floor. We snuck away for a family picture just before calling it a night.
